Introducing the Ho‘ohana Online Community

If you are new to Talking Story, Ho‘ohana™ is the monthly newsletter of SAY LEADERSHIP COACHING, sent on the first of each month to our email subscribers. Talking Story is home to the Ho‘ohana™ online edition, and we explore more on the newsletter’s theme periodically through-out the rest of the month. The best way to sort out the Ho‘ohana™ posts from the others, is to click on the Talking Story category link named Monthly Ho‘ohana: they’ll appear from newest to oldest. This month, our theme is Community.

You may recall my sharing that I’ve given a great deal of thought to adding a blogroll to Talking Story, and today is the day I have done so. This became the perfect time, as a true celebration of our Ho‘ohana™ theme of Community this month.

Look to your right, and just below the book jacket of Managing with Aloha you will see a new heading called Ho‘ohana Online Community. These are people who have an online presence I’d like to share with you, via easy link connections right here on Talking Story’s home page, for they have much to teach us in the way that they individually ho‘ohana, working with passion, intention, and purpose. They will help us as we strive to be a learning community:

‘Ike loa is the value of learning. Seek knowledge, for new knowledge is the food for mind, heart and soul. Learning inspires us, and with ‘Ike loa we constantly give birth to new creative possibilities.
--from Managing with Aloha, chapter eleven.

Underneath the link which states the name of their website, they have written a short description which reveals what their individual ho‘ohana is, revealing the richness you will find when you click in, and the ‘ike loa they themselves seek.

Please visit them, and spend some time getting to know them. Look for the subscription links they offer on their own sites. They are members of your Ho‘ohana Community, and they generously share their mana‘o with you. If you have been following Talking Story fairly regularly (for which you have my sincere mahalo) you will be thrilled to find your old friends, and perhaps a new one.

Think of the Ho‘ohana Online Community as your SLC Ho‘ohana Community newspaper, with every link unfolding your copy of the paper to a new section. Most of these authors and editors update their sections daily, and you’ll want to click in regularly to browse their headlines and be among the first to hear of their new discoveries.

I’ll be opening the comment fields of this particular Talking Story post exclusively to this generous group of people this week, so they can share a bit more about their ho‘ohana with you.

Let’s connect, talk story, and celebrate our community. We ho‘ohana together, kakou.
Rosa

Rosa,

I'm truly honored to be mentioned on your site and with the other bloggers.

If your readers haven't had a chance to get to know my site, I recommend spending some time with the post section entitled "Where to Start" on the left hand side of my blog (www.ktoddstorch.com).

Great job with the community!

Todd

Thank you Rosa for including Wiz Speak in the Ho'ohana Online Community! As you, we hold a great deal of venerability for the people on our blogroll. We're not looking to create a phonebook - just the possibility of connecting our guests to someone who has the ability to make a difference in their life. Our -- we -- I'm starting to sound like Yvonne and Jane. (Pssst, don't tell Yvonne, but I love Jane - I think she's brilliant!)

My personal Mana'o is played out on the imaginary Yellow Brick Road. But it isn't one road, it is a series of roads - as in the front and back pictures inside Dr. Seuss' book, Oh, the Places You'll Go! Each road taken, each person met, each thought connected to - illuminates the landscape to that many more possibilities.

My utmost mission on the road is one of 'Ike loa. I believe to obtain this revered value, one must give and that is what I attempt to do at Wiz Speak - to give in the manner of provoking thought - make you think.

I love to write. Rosemary says, "David, errr well, she doesn't call me David, she calls me Chief, she says, Chief, get to the point." But I can't, at least not directly. You see, I travel with the most delightful creatures on the face of the planet. And they simply will not allow me to stray in the direction of directness one itsy bitsy little bit. They'll say, "David, why would we let you be so forthright? When we know, if you'll just let us out to play, we'll take your readers hither and yon and show them the world through your kaleidoscope eyes." Oh man, my little buddies can be a handful. I'll tell you a little bit more about them in an upcoming post.

Thats it, a peek through my window into Wiz Speak. Please stop by for a visit sometime.

By the way, there are two versions as to how I acquired the name of Chief - Rosemary's and mine. We promise to tell you our separate stories soon.

Mahalo nui loa my sister Rosa!

Thank you for including Blog Business World in the Talking Story Online Community. It's a privilege to be part of such a special group of bloggers.

You have chosen well in your recommendations. By working together, sharing ideas, and helping one another, we all reach our business and personal goals.

Hello Rosa and everyone in the Ho‘ohana Online Community - just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about you. I have been working on my own web blog...you know, the one Rosa gave me a one-year subscription for. It's still a work in progress, although I do have a name for it. It will be known as "KnowMore Blogging". I hope I can launch it in the next few weeks...it depends on how quickly I can get some content on board. Will keep you all posted.

Mahalo, Mahalo Rosa for inviting Dave and myself from Wiz Speak along with this outstanding group. Stop by and visit us- you are considered family. I grew up in an Italian house and our doors were always opened to friends and family. Platters of food were brought out and true community was shared. Ho'okipa is what we are trying to accomplish at Wiz Speak. Dave believes in making you think; using metaphoric prose most brilliantly. On the other hand, I am a straight shooter, tell it like it is person. I believe in sharing my experiences (good and bad) and also having fun. Laughter is music to my ears. Our doors are open- come on in anytime and share with us.

Rosa,
What a lovely way to build community! You not only honored us by creating a blogroll, you encouraged other members of the community to explore our work, and you encouraged us to speak up here. There is such richness, passion and humor in the blogs you've chosen. And as a beginning blogger, a lot for me to learn.

I have a proposal for the Ho'ohana Online Community. How about if we take on a topic--perhaps something in the news, or a question or topic suggested by a member of the larger Ho'ohana Community or reader of Rosa's book--and each of us post from our distinct perspective? I am very interested in how on-line communities can make a difference in people's lives, and I have a sense that by linking us, Rosa is on to something.

Anyone game?
Beth

Rosa, you are a wonder!
You will inspire us to achieve greatness in spite of ourselves! I am honored to be part of the Ho'ohana Online Community.

My mission as a citizen publisher is to help others through the sometimes painful transition from corporate employee to stable self-employment and a winning attitude toward life.

21st century employment is in for some radical changes in the next few years. More and more highly-paid professionals will be jettisoned into a post-corporate existence. Those who prepare for this will emerge stronger and happier than ever before.

My posts focus on the warning signs of corporate meltdown and what choices you can make to improve your chances of future happiness. I have a book in the works, about surviving corporate employment. The cover is being tested this week. You are all welcome to critique it.

Wow! I'm so honored to be a part of this vibrant and inspirational community. It's already made a huge impact on my own growth. Not only have a gained new ideas through blogging, I have found so many wonderful friends, which is not exactly what I expected when I started.

I created the Alchemy of Soulful Work in September 2004 mostly as a way to share some ideas that had been swimming around in my head. Surrounded by the fast-lane life that is Washington DC, I wanted to be an advocate for another way. I wanted to remind us all (including myself) that a whole life is possible, that great work can be accomplished when it's integrated into a life that rewards play, dreaming, and loving connections. I love writing about soulful careers, leadership (two of the primary foci of my coaching practice), workplace dynamics, and life.

Rosa, your sincerity and warmth are truly boundless. Again, thanks for including me in this rich group of fellow explorers. Be well.

Rosa and the rest of Ho‘ohana Online Community: I just went public with my weblog and my first official post. KnowMore Blogging is still a very simple weblog with nowhere near the whistles and bells I have seen on other weblogs. However, it appears to be working and I am quite happy with that. I will continue to develop in over the coming weeks and months. You can access it at:

Come visit and do some blogging.

Doug

Hello -

I'm a new reader trying to join the Ho‘ohana Community through the "Say Leadership Coaching" mailing list, but I'm getting an error from your Constant Contact subscription box. Can you help? Thanks!

Jennifer

You're all set Jennifer, and I'll do some scouting to see what the hang-up was; thank you for letting me know.

Welcome to our Ho'ohana Community!
My aloha to you,
Rosa
